A BEAUTIFUL WEDDING CAKE

I designed and made this cake for the wedding of Alyssa & Jeremy (10-20-07).

The tiers were 14", 12" 9" and 6". The 14",
12" and 6" were all 4 layers and the 9" was 3
layers. The roses and custom hybrid lilies (7 petals),were made from sugarpaste, then colored.
The cake itself - a white cake (Lady Baltimore) was filled with vanilla buttercream and iced in vanilla (ivory color) buttercream.

To achieve a 2 tone effect, I tinted the
buttercream slightly darker for the piping
work. I used ivory paste coloring in the
buttercream - it works really well and a
little goes a long way! Fondant pearls, were
dusted in Antique silk luster dust to make
them more realistic, and were added above and
below the "C" part of the design.

I colored the sugar roses by dipping them into
a mixture of burgundy luster dust and vodka.
(Dip as many times as needed to get the
correct shade, but be sure to let them dry
thoroughly between dippings).

The cake was assembled at the recption then a
pearl/bead border added to complete the look.
I created a double border on the middle two
tiers.

This cake was a huge hit and delicious!

Congrats on such a beautiful cake! I love the idea of tinting the buttercream. I will keep that in mind.
