Awesome Buttercream

I came up with this by combining several different recipes that I have tried. This one is my families favorite.

1/2 stick salted butter, softened
1/2 stick unsalted butter, softened
1 cup hi-ratio shortening
2 lbs 10x Powdered Sugar
2 tsp clear vanilla extract
5-6 tbsp cold milk

Cream butter, shortening, vanilla, and milk. Add 1/2 of the sugar and mix well. Scrape down sides and add remaining bag of sugar, mix.

This makes a medium to thin consistency. Add or take away milk until you get your ideal consistency.

I use hi-ratio shortening. Crisco is too soft for my taste, and I will not use it to decorate with. If you cannot find hi-ratio shortening, use a shortening that has at least 2-3 grams of trans fat. Most generic store brands have this.

Yes, it does crust. I do not use Crisco. It is too soft. I have used the generic brand if I am our hi ratio is not available.

Is this a "crusting" buttercream??
Have a recipe using Crisco from the internet. Actually I have only ever used the No Name brand shortening from my local grocery store, so your comments don't sound hopeful.
I made a buttercream yesterday from a internet site. Used it last night, and it is still soft, never hardened. It has been rainy here, but surely it should have "crusted" by now.
Want to try your recipe if it "hardens". Making a wedding cake in about a month, and need a reliable icing. Appreciate your answer.
Thanks
