SET UP WORK SPACE
- Place dowel in front of work space (this will be use to rest the baby head on while you continue working on other heads… you can use other items just make sure it will not make a dent into the heads)
- Set down wax paper on your work area. (I tacked it down with tape on the sides… this will cover the dowel too)
- Fill your small container with warm water.
- Have flour near by just in case the fondant gets sticky you can dust it.
- Place your larger container where you can grab it when you’re finished.
- You will need a knife to cut the fondant into pieces you will need to use.
- Zip locks near by so that when you finish using fondant you can immediately put in away and avoid drying out.
MAKING BABY HEADS
(Every time you continue on with another head rest finished head on dowel)
-(SKIN COLORED FONDANT) Cut off enough to make a ¾” balls. This will be the head of the baby. (continue on with how many you want)
- Using more skin color fondant. Cut off two small balls approx 2/4”. Take paint brush dip in water, tap off excess, brush on the bottom/front of the head and attach the smaller balls. These are the little arms.
- Cut off two even smaller balls. Small enough to be ears. Take out paint brush, dip it in the water, tap the excess off, brush on the front/sides of the head – mid way.
- Put excess fondant into zip lock – remove air and seal.
-(BLACK FONDANT) Roll very thinly cut off not quite ½”. Make a single curl in it. Again repeat paint brush procedure. Dab water on the top of the head of the “baby” place the curl. You might have to hold it there for a little bit.
-(LIGHT BLUE FONDANT) Roll out flat. Take the pen cap (clean hopefully) cut out enough circles for all the heads. Put excess in zip lock.
-(YELLOW FONDANT) Roll out flat. You can either eye it or use your ruler. Cut strips (get ready for this…) 1.5mm wide and 6mm long (yes that small) bend it in the middle. Use your paint brush again then attach it to the middle of the circles you just made. There you made the pacifiers.
- Do the paint brush procedures again this time paint the water on the back of the pacifier. Attach the pacifier not quite in the middle of the head but just a little lower. (not by much)
-(EDIBLE BLACK PEN) Looking at the pacifier location make dots for eyes.
(Baby heads are done… they need to dry now. Put them into the med. Container or a container where they are NOT touching each other. Leave them to dry over-night)
CUPCAKES:
-You are just making them tonight. No icing. Let them rest over night.
DAY OF SHOWER:
(Baby heads will be completely dry now)
- Start by setting up your area once again like you did the night before with the exception of the additional gum drops. (You’ll be making baby blankets next)
- Easiest is to line the cupcakes in front of your work space so that they are easy to grab.
- Place your head in front of the cupcake. If the baby head doesn’t stay by itself, use more icing in that area and maneuver the head into the icing so that it’s snug and stays.
- Take (3) gum drops (chocolate chips, sm. Gum…) place it directly behind the head. One after the other. (there is the body of the baby)
-(VARIOUS COLORS) I used my nephew's alphabet shapes to cut out shapes and use on top of the blankets. You can be creative and do what ever you want… make it look like a quilt…etc. Roll out and cut what you need to put on top of the blanket.
-(VARIOUS COLORS) Roll out flat, cut into a rectangle that is long enough that will drape over the cup cake.
- Use your paint brush and water, put on all the shapes you previously cut out onto the blanket. (it looks good when you fray the ends of the blanket)
- Drape the “now blanket” over the cupcake and baby. MAKE SURE you place the blanket just behind the baby curl (showing the curl) and drape the blanket over the baby head.
DAMAGE CONTROL:
Bring your fondant just incase you have someone (not that my SOMEONE HAD TO dropped one) to fix one on the spot.
(There you have your baby in a blanket… I will warn you, I made these for my sister’s baby shower and no one would eat them because they were too cute. Therefore, you may want to make extra plain cupcakes.)
