This
black wedding cake with gum paste flowers is all real cake-- I had to tell the cashier at my local grocery store not to judge me as I purchased 11 lbs of butter and 48 eggs...
The bottom tier is a cream cheese pound cake with amaretto cream, the next is a chocolate blackout cake with Chambord syrup and espresso truffle filling, then comes a butter cake with white chocolate raspberry cream, and finally another chocolate blackout cake on the top.
All the flowers, which included hot pink roses, green hydrangea, stephanotis, and a few dendrobium orchids on the topper, (and all of the leaves!) were hand made and colored. I worked on them almost every night for about a month.
All of the tiers of the black wedding cake are covered in black fondant. The bottom tier has fondant pearls, some isomalt gems, and royal icing strings. The large bow and the brooch are made from 50/50 paste. The top tier also has fondant pearls and royal icing strings.
The board was covered with foil and then covered with pink isomalt.
The final product stood almost 30" tall and took over 200 sugar flowers.
