What's Baking - Cake Carnival 2015

In 2013, Cake Carnival premiered in Kitchener, Ontario Canada.  Taking almost 2 years to plan and organize, Icing Inspirations hosted 75 students from various parts of the world,  to learn from 6 of the greatest cake artists in the industry over the course of 3 days.  Instructors taught in pairs and groups of students learned 3 circus themed projects:

The cake industry had not seen anything of this sort outside of large trade shows or conventions, and whether or not it would be a success was a big question.  Based on student feedback, carnival was a hit and questions as to when the carnival would return were plenty!  Given the magnitude of planning such an event (and it is an EVENT), it would not be an annual thing.  Needless to say, the carnival is back in Kitchener this year – November 3rd through 5th to be exact.  This time around the theme is different – projects are centered around weddings.  The roster of instructors is a bit different from the first time as Susan Trianos, Lindsey Sinatra and Courtney Clark join carnival veterans Karen Portaleo, Joshua John Russell and James Rosselle to create 2 stunning wedding cakes and 1 phenomenal groom’s cake in only 3 days!

Here is what we know about the projects – James & Lindsey will be making an elegant gold, pink, ivory & seafoam cake-  complete with monogram and flowers:

Courtney & Joshua will be doing a whimsical wedding cake they are calling, “Vintage Valentine” that will feature hand piping, stucco finishing,  sculpting and more:

Susan & Karen will be creating a tattoo-inspired groom’s cake that will include sculpting, hand painting and making wafer paper flowers:

I learned a lot of techniques at the first carnival that I continuously use, and look forward to learning more techniques again this time.  I am also looking forward to seeing friends from the last carnival as well as new ones I have made through the private carnival group on facebook that is only open to registered students.  Most of all, I am looking forward to the SWAG!!!  That’s right, SWAG!  I did mention carnival is an EVENT….every student gets an exclusive Cake Carnival Wedded Bliss swag bag on the first day of class.  This bag is filled with tools to use in class and keep to use afterwards, as well as samples from some pretty awesome companies!  There is also a student mingle night and door prizes are drawn.  So carnival is indeed an event – learning from amazing artists, free gifts and prizes!

Carnival is already more than 2/3 full and continues to fill up fast!  If you are interested in signing up, you can do so at www.icinginspirations.com.  Class cost is $1350 + tax.  That is in Canadian funds, so it is actually a bit cheaper for American students given the current exchange rates.  Icing Inspirations has also worked out a great rate with a local hotel that offers shuttle service to class for out of town students.  Most supplies are included in the cost of class, as are catered lunches.    If you are interested in becoming a sponsor for carnival, please send an email to morselsbymark@yahoo.com
