Fishing Cakes

Fishing cakes are great for birthday and Father's Day cakes. Here are a few different ideas that have been submitted to Cake Decorating Corner:

Golf & Bass Fishing Tournament Cake

golf and bass fishing tournament cake

I needed to combine both golf and fishing for this event, so each alternate layer is its own theme. The first layer is the bass fish in the water with the lily pads and frog on top of the water as well as the fisherman in his boat catching one of the bass fish. The second layer is the golf course in 3D, notice how the flags get smaller as it's in the distance. The third layer is a bass fish, with its tail and fins all made out of fondant/gum paste mix. He was painted with the shimmer powder to get the full effect. The fourth layer represents golf and the plaid pants with the golf balls. The fifth layer is the lake where the local guy is fishing off of the log with his feet in the water and there's all grass The 6th and 7th layer are together as both 6" cakes are combined on top of each other for the height and covered as one for the golf bag, which had a shoulder strap and a pocket where the gold tees are falling out of. Then on top the golf clubs are made out of fondant/gum paste and put inside cake with skewers. Everything is edible!

Gone Fishing with My Dog Cake

Gone fishing with my dog cakeEasy as pie, this boat cake with fisherman! I used 14 inch cake tin oblong for the bottom cake. Square tin for the boat, any size (you may waste cake on this so make some trifle (the visitors love it). Cut out a dinghy shape, scoop out inside, cut with a sharp knife shape some seats. I got a pic off the net to show me the inside and shape.

man with dog fishing cakeCover the bottom cake with blue butter cream. While you're beating in the blue, stop before it mixes totally to keep a hint of white. I use 3 tablespoons of copha melted in the icing. It sets the way I like it and warm weather doesn't melt anything. Place the dinghy on after you give it a quick icing with white butter icing. I used a paintbrush 1/2 in wide. Dip it in hot water and use in the boat to the get the icing in the corner and flat. Worked a treat. Place figures inside boat. Fondant stays slightly soft. I used gumtrag whilst kneading fondant to stop things from breaking.

Fishing Father Cake

fishing father cakeThe bottom cake of the fishing father cake is a sheet cake frosted in buttercream frosting. The shark is made with rice crispy treats & covered with fondant. The boat was made in a loaf pan & covered with fondant. The motor was made from fondant. The man is made with fondant & actually looks a lot like my hubby.
