Here are several different types of Thanksgiving cakes from flowers to turkey to pie cupcakes, all bound to be the best part of the holiday celebration.

Thanksgiving Centerpiece Cake

Thanksgiving centerpiece cakeThis thanksgiving centerpiece cake is one of my favorite cakes. It was made using my long loaf pan, with pumpkin spice cake. It was iced in cream cheese icing, and decorated with buttercream cornelli lace and beaded border. I used 3 little taper candles inserted in the center of the cake, as it was to be used as the Thanksgiving centerpiece on the table! There were royal icing mum flowers in red-brown, yellow, and orange to decorate around the candles and the corners of the cake.

Happy Turkey Day Cake

happy turkey day cakeThe body of the turkey was carved from a circular cake and covered with fondant.
The head is made of molded marzipan. The feathers are made from molded and dried fondant and then colored. Details were made with the end tip of a paintbrush (turkey's body, marks on feathers).
The head was attached with skewers.

And soon he came alive =)

Turkey Cake

turkey cakeThe turkey cake was make with a boxed cake & I made a round cake & a rectangle cake. I cut the rectangle cake in strips with the one end of strips rounded for the tail feathers. Took the remainder of the rectangle cake & made the head of the turkey with one of the corners that was cut off as the nose.

The body of the turkey is covered in chocolate icing and the feathers are orange and yellow - I alternated each color.

Thanksgiving Pie Cupcakes

thanksgiving pie cupcakesI did these Thanksgiving Pie Cupcakes for the kids. I thought they'd like them better than real pie! They are vanilla cupcakes with a thick layer of buttercream icing, and a border around the top. Then, real cherry pie filling is carefully placed on top, and then iced in a lattice pattern and ruffle to look like little pies! They tasted SO good. After making a bunch of them I couldn't resist and declared it the best cupcake I'd ever eaten! :-)

You can pipe the lattice with the basketweave tip. Just turn the tip over so that the lines are facing the cupcake. If you use too much of the pie filling, it will drip down the sides of the cupcakes, so be careful how much of it you place with the cherries.

Big Roasted Bird Cake

big roasted bird cakeThis is the Thanksgiving Turkey cake that started a long string of cakes to come.

Standard pound cake for the body. We colored the cake in the legs red as a joke to make it look like it was uncooked. We used turkey frills to solve the bone issues at the end of the legs. We used Marshmallow fondant and butter creme icing for the icing. Then we sprayed it using an airbrush and food coloring (combined with water). We served it in an turkey roasting pan with candy around it.
