Blue Cake

Blue Cake

I made this cake for my step-fathers birthday. He really likes the buttermilk cake recipe that I found several years ago. Every time he hears that I am baking a cake he gets really excited. I decided that since he likes banana I would try and make a banana flavored frosting. I used imitation banana flavoring with buttercream frosting. He liked it but I thought it tasted like banana Now and Laters. To frost the cake I mixed blue icing color with part of the white buttercream frosting and frosted one layer blue, one white and so on. I wanted the cake to have different color frosting in between each layer. As you can see from the picture, I did it! The outside of the cake had a white base layer and then I used a star tip to create the design using a mixture of blue and white frosting in the decorating bag. It turned out to be a learning experience for me but a happy birthday for my step-father!

I made this cake for my friends at work, it went like hotcakes! I love the idea of different flavor icing. I like to use lemon extract for mine. Thanks again for the recipe.
