Bulge in middle of fondant covered cake

Bulge in middle of fondant covered cake

Every time I cover a cake with fondant, you can see the center bulge where the filling is. Even when I don't put too much filling it shows. I use butter cream to create a border so the filling does not come out, but it ends up bulging the butter cream. How do you get a fondant covered cake that is smooth and straight without the bulges showing?
thank you.

The cake will settle after you fill it. What I would do is put the cake in the refrigerator for a few hours after you fill it. That will give the layers time to settle and any filling that is destined to squeeze out from the center will get it over with. Then you can wipe away the excess, crumb coat your cake, and frost it with buttercream.

Hi, I would do a crumb coat then refrigerate it. Then do another layer a final coat. Then roll your fondant out. Sometimes if the fondant is to thin it will stretch and you will see a bulge.

You should fill the cake and use crumb frosting the day before. This should stop the bulge.

After you frost it do you chill it? This might be the problem.
