Cordi's Christening Cake
I baked a mediera sponge with vanilla extract for a little flavour - i used a roasting tin with nipped in sides and a rounded side as i wanted the shape to resemble a pinched in at the sides Pillow, as thought it had been plumped! I then lay one layer on top of the other to make a more symmetrical shape using butter cream and strawberry Jam in the middle. I covered the outside all over with some butter cream and set aside in the fridge for the cream to chill so, that i could cover with fondant without it slipping and sliding! I Covered and smoothed the fondant after rolling to a quarter inch thickness.( I use a plastic sheet to do this on with a dusting of icing, as it is easier to lift onto the cake than using the pin, especially if it is a large surface to be covered). I shaped the booties and pin pricked the cuff to make them appear knitted. The frill on the edge was simple but fiddely, i cut 1" wide lengths of ivory fondent and simply rolled the end of a modelling brush to make the pleated effect, which made a natural curve for the swag also. i then attached with some edible glue and pushed a little indentation to secure which i filled with the pink sugar balls, the flowers where piped and set aside to harden a couple of day's before and simply glued at the end.And the little bib was from my craft box.
