cupcake icing

I am making cupcakes for my son's soccer party. I love to cook, but for the most part not really a baker. I don't know why I volunteered for the cupcakes, but regardless.... My idea is to make a white or vanilla cake batter and frost with white icing and then pipe on black design to look like a soccer ball. What kind of icing do you think I should make? And what icing and coloring do I use for the black? HELP.

Black Frosting

It's difficult to make black frosting but my instructor taught me a trick. Buy chocolate frosting and add black food coloring to it. This should work and it tastes great.

you could make buttercream icing or you could make it easy on yourself and buy some can frosting from your local store. for the black they also sell the black gel in a tube or black frosting in a tube at your local store also.
