Graduation Cap Cake

Graduation Cap Cake

4 friends are combining their kids graduation party and want me to make a cake of 4 grad caps stacked. I have done many wedding cakes and am familiar with stacking cakes straight up, but any ideas how I can stack these in a manner not straight up. I plan to cover each with rolled fondant.

Thanks so much for your help. Cake turned out decent for my first try at topsy turvy. If I can figure out how....I will try to post the pic!

Grad caps

I have done so many of these, its really easy. I use a 1/2 ball pan for the cap, covered in fondant of course. I used two gram crackers covered with gumpaste for the top. You can use extra thick gumpaste too. Make them separately, once dried, just stack them. They should stay.

What a cute idea! Stack it like a topsy turvy cake. Then it will look like a crooked stack of hats but it's just an illusion. There are several websites that give instructions on how to stack a topsy-turvey cake. Just type in "instructions for topsy-turvey cake. Good luck. Post a picture when you are done!
