Heather's Buttercream Icing
1/2 cup real butter, softened
1/2 cup hard margarine or shortening, softened
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp butter flavoring (or any desired flavoring - raspberry is nice!)
1 tbsp milk
1tbsp meringue powder
4 cups icing sugar
Cream butter and margarine (or shortening) together until smooth. Add in vanilla and flavoring. With mixer on low setting, add in icing sugar, meringue powder, and then add in milk until desired consistency (you may want to add more icing sugar depending). And voila! A delicious icing perfect for filling, decorating and icing cake!
*If you don't have meringue powder, it will still turn out great...it just won't crust over at all.
