Hobbit Hole Cake
How I made the Hobbit Hole Cake:
"In a hole in the ground, there lived a hobbit..."
My family members are huge Lord of the Rings fans so I made this hobbit hole birthday cake for my brother-in-law. It comes complete with Gandalf the wizard coming to visit Frodo and Sam and even has Sam's garden over on the side of the "house". The cake is chocolate baked in a 9" round pan and I used my wonder mold pan to make the hill and offset it on top of the round cake. I used buttercream icing tinted green to frost the entire cake and added vines and leaves and lavender flowers covering "Bag End" and added a garden of brown "dirt rows" with a basket weave tip and "cabbages" using a star tip. I used the flat side of one of the basket weave tips and grey tinted icing to create the stacked look on the chimney and the front walk way. I used a Ritz cracker and the grooved side of the basket weave tip to make the green door. I outlined the door with brown icing piped from a star tip to give the wooden appearance and piped some more vines and flowers around the door and then added the figurines (bought at a local store) last. It sure was a hit for these LOTR fans!
