Try using gumpaste for figurines you could mix 1/3 fondant & 2/3 gumpaste. Gumpaste by itself dries hard. Fondant stays soft yet moldable. So if you try somewhere inbetween I think you'll be ok. experiment that's how we learn and call it our own.
