Interested in learning to use Fondant (clueless) in Wake Forest??

It's 3:15 am and I can't sleep~

I am doing research for my sister-in-law's 50th Birthday and genuinely want to get involved with my brother in doing this~

I saw a cake called a Topsy Turvy Cake (it's in black and white) on a site called Pinkcakebox.com. I really want to learn to make something like this.

I have taken Wilton cake decorating lessons in my late teens and early 20's (now 42) and haven't baked or decorated cakes in MANY years~

I thought I would start out with Styrofoam, and the internet to help me to design a similar cake.

Is fondant something I should buy pre-made? Anywhere in Wake Forest to take a class? or would it just be cheaper to have it made? Just undecided what to do...

Okay, I am rambling~ any suggestions would be more than appreciated.

Thanks for your time in reading... D in Wake Forest

fondant classes

I'm not sure when you have to have the cake done for but I teach cake decorating at Michaels Craft Store and they have fondant/gum paste class. You should take it, it will give you the basics. I always look in books and the internet for ideas.
You can find many kinds of fondant. I think if you buy it is better. You will not have to fuss with getting it right. I like Satin Ice. They have colors and flavors. some stores carry this you can also google it.
