Making edible silver paint

I have read in various sources that silver paint can be made by mixing luster dust with vodka or clear vanilla. I have tried this a couple of times but all I get is a murky gray yuck. I am using Wilton luster dust, so I assume it is a good quality product. What am I doing wrong?

You are actually doing it correctly. Even though the mixture looks cloudy, it will dry a matte silver. You may need to give the fondant a few applications to achieve a solid look. This won't create a shiny silver finish.
