preserving fondant-covered fruit cake for later date christening

Help! Please can you tell me how to preserve a fondant-covered traditional fruit wedding cake for a couple of years to use for a christening? If at all possible I'd like to store or freeze it without having to take off the fondant now and re-ice before the christening. I know it's possible with royal icing but don't know about fondant which is softer and moister. If frozen for so long the cake may dry out but if tinned would it go mouldy? Thank you very much.
