What is gum tragacanth???
by: Anonymous

Aloha Karen,
Gum Tragacanth (insert R)is added to fondant to
make gum paste. As suggested, buying gum paste from Wilton or other sources is quicker.
You can buy it at more professional bake supply shops, or from the internet. I make MM fondant and add a small amount (makes it gum paste)to it for the creation of my flowers, animals..etc.
Another name to look for that does the same thing is: Tylose, alittle less expensive....Tragacanth is my choice...it really hardens brittle, takes color well, and OH the defined shapes you can make.

Suggestion

My suggestion is just buy a bag of Gumpaste. It is the same thing. You can find it at any Walmart or JoAnnes Fabric as well as Michael's craft store. Gumpaste is used to make flowers, and basicaly anything else you would want to add to a cake. I've made monkeys, bannanas, trees, teepees, canoes and many other things. It hardens better than fondant. You can even use it to make that ribbon for the wedding cake. Dries quik though. Good Luck Mary
