Christmas tree cakes

Christmas tree cakes make delightful centerpieces for the holiday dinner table. Here are two different variations.

Christmas Tree Cake

christmas tree cake1. Bake, torte and fill 10",8",6" and 4" round cakes.
Place all on cardboard cake boards,10" goes on a covered cake drum or 1/2 foam board cut and covered.

2. Carve each cake into a bell shape.
Crumb coat the cakes and chill in fridge.
Cover with fondant, tuck edges of fondant underneath cake board to form smooth edge. Paint accents with luster dust and attach fondant ornaments with toothpicks.

3. Using either wooden dowels or straws add support to each cake except the 4" cake. Stack cakes and drive wooden dowel down through all and into cake drum.

Realistic Christmas Tree Cake

realistic christmas tree cakeI could not find a Christmas Tree cake anywhere on the internet. One that looks like a Christmas Tree.

So I tried 3 different ways and the last way works fine.

7 layers(2" deep cake pans) One each 10,9,8,7,6,5,4 cake tins.

Cream Cheese icing with Raspberries and pecans in middle of each layer. Colored layers 5 different colors, to make it interesting.
Red Velvet cake recipe used.
Cake was 22"h x 10"w.

Made 120 branch leaves out of green gumpaste dried them upside down on pvc pipes to make them dry curved.

Made top Star from Gum paste and different sizes of star cutters put in cups and bowls to make them curve and pressed them together with water to set paste.

Afte gum paste leaves dried hard, I made a cut with a cake icer in the side of the cake and pushed in the different staggered levels. When leaves were all inserted I painted them with green food coloring and sprinkled them with yellow and white sparkling sugar...I took step by step photos for my niece in Omaha to be able to do the cake.
